Archive for March, 2008

We will be exploring, small loom and off-loom weaving.  Brother Pierre from the Mt. Saviour Monastery has accepted our invitation to come and demonstrate Inkle loom weaving and to talk about the monastery sheep and how he used the yarn from their fleeces in his weaving and knitting projects.

Several members will also be demonstrating and talking about their small loom or off loom weaving techniques.

We will learn about lap looms, triangle shawl looms, inkle looms, finger weaving, stick weaving, rigid heddles, tapestry  and more.  Some of the looms will be set up for guild members to try.

Feel free to bring any small looms or weaving projects for us to explore… don’t forget to bring yarn to play with.

We had a great turnout for the March meeting in our new location.  Members appeared to have done some serious stash sorting, evident by the amount of things they brought along for our Destash Day.  There was a bit of something for everyone, books, magazines, fabric, yarn, fiber, … craft/hobby items… even seeds!  Some thing were donated to the guild library/equipment inventory, other things given away, traded or sold.  The new space is great! We really filled up a lot of tables with destash things and wouldn’t have fit in our old meeting space.

We are planning to do this yearly, in March. Some members have hinted they wouldn’t mind doing it twice a year, something to discuss at the next meeting.  Several members shared info about projects they are working on or have finished.

We picked out the felted sheet for our banner and hope to start working on that soon.

Two new members joined.

For the gardeners in the guild…

Eve still has lots of seeds available, will bring them to the April and May meeting.  Dan still has some dye plant seeds available, will bring them to the May meeting.  Other members can bring any extras they have.

Newsletters went out a week ago, if you are a guild member and didn’t get yours, leave me a note or call me and I’ll get one to you.
