We will be having a dish-to-pass luncheon to celebrate our 2nd anniversary as a guild.

Vendors (members only) will have items for sale.

We will be hosting a basket weaving workshop on November 14th, 1pm.

The basket chosen for the workshop is the grape gathering basket. Measurements for the basket are 18" long, 12" wide, the basket itself (without the handle) measures 7" tall. With the handle it is 14" or 18 inches tall. Choosing the longer handle will allow you to use the handle as a lazy kate. One of the photos shows the basket with the colored bands (several colors will be available or you can use a naturally colored material). Another photo shows a similar basket with a taller handle. The fuzzy photo (taken with a phone camera) shows a handle converted to a lazy kate).

Cost for the workshop is $35.00 and last day to sign up is Saturday at the guild meeting on the 7th.

2nd Anniversary Celebration… Saturday – 11am-4pm

Anniversary Luncheon, vendors, spinning lessons.

Members are asked to bring a dish to pass for the Anniversary Luncheon.

Instead of a Roc day sale in January, we will be having our sale on our Anniversary Meeting. This gives everyone time to purchase items for holiday gifts. If you are a guild member and grow or make things to sell, or provide a service, please plan to set up that day.

Everyone is asked to bring their wheels or spindles so that others can try a variety of wheels or spindles.. We ask that you have empty bobbins or spindles and hand cards… roving will be provided.

We have enjoyed lots of summer activities, vacations, demos, workshops, festivals and more… Some of the members entered items in competition and came home with ribbons and awards.. we hope to take photos at the next meeting.

Now that Autumn has arrived, we are back to our regular meetings and will be adding some extra events. The Upcoming Events page with be updated with info as we receive it.

Next Meeting October 3rd, 11am – 4pm Bring your projects, news, ribbons, show and tell and anything to share. We will be discussing a rug workshop for next month.

October 10, 1pm – Basket Weaving Workshop. We will be working on the Jeremiah Market Basket… it measures 10 x 10 inches at the base and 14 inches tall including the handle, great for toting fiber, yarn and other supplies. The cost of the workshop is $35.00 all materials included. If you are interested in attending the workshop, please leave a comment or send me an email by October 3rd at the latest to insure that we have enough supplies. Money will be collected at the guild meeting or the day of the class if you can’t be at the meeting.

One of our guild members and a friend in period costume entertaining the crowds at the museum. These two girls also helped with spinning and open hearth cooking. Another photo shows them once again entertaining the crowds, this time at the Fingerlakes Fiber Festival in Hemlock NY. The final photo shows the first we saw when we pull into our parking spot at the Fingerlakes Fiber Festival..

There has been a chill in the air the last few mornings, reminding us that Autumn is not too far away.

Guild members have been very busy this summer. We have participated in Demos, Workshops, been to Fairs and Festivals. A newsletter to close out the summer events and detail upcoming events will go out mid September to members.

Our regular September meeting would have fallen on Labor Day weekend and many of the members will be away or busy with family activities. And since the Guild is scheduled to spend the day at the Benjamin Patterson Inn, Whingblinger Event on September 12th, we will have a brief guild meeting there in the afternoon. Look for us under a tent, we will be easy to find with our spinning wheels and looms.

We will no longer be having Saturday evening gatherings at the church twice a month.. Our 11am – 4pm monthly meetings allows us enough time to work on projects. We may pick it up again next summer if our schedule is similar to this year’s. Meanwhile we will meet at members home in between meetings if we need/want to get together.

A reminder that guild meetings now start at 11am.

We will be having a basket weaving workshop for those that have pre-registered.

We will be dyeing fibers in preparation for our felt demo/class at the library later this month.

Lots of weaving, spinning, show and tell, things for sale, and other things will be going on.

Don’t forget to bring your tagged felted items for the library exhibit!

A quick reminder that lieu of a regular guild meeting this month, we are having our annual family picnic on July 11th, starting 11 am and Tanglewood.  Bring a dish to pass, your own service, bring family, visitors,  projects, games, whatever!

Banners patches should be turned in at the picnic.  The felted bra project for the fundraiser for cancer research will be available to be worked on.

Anyone signing up for the basket workshop can reserve their spot by paying their deposit at the picnic.

A quick reminder that Saturday evening get-together for knitting, spinning, whatever… for guild members and adult & teen visitors is coming up tomorrow June 27th, 6-8pm at the church. While this is not a guild meeting, we will be discussing a basket weaving project planned for next month. Shown is a photo of a basket very similar to the one we have chosen to make. Some of the guild members are planning to weave their own straps for their baskets, using an inkle/tape loom for their weaving.

Apologies going out to anyone who came looking for info about the event at the fairground on Saturday only to find that we’d omitted the exact time we’d be there. Upcoming events have been updated and will continue to be updated as they get closer.

We had quite a few people stop by and ask us questions about our spinning, fiber, wheels and more. We were set up on the porch of the log cabin and really enjoyed ourselves.

Shearing Day at Mount Saviour Monastery is scheduled for May 23rd.  Shearing will start at 8:30 and continue till done.  A few guild members are scheduled to do spinning demos in the gift shop lobby.
