The purpose of our guild is primarily the reviving, preserving, and teaching the historic craft of hand spinning and other fiber arts. Our members range in age from 13 years and up. Our group started when a knitter brought her spinning wheel along to a knitting group that meets on Mondays. Somehow word got around that there was a spinner at the coffee shop on Mondays and soon people were coming to watch and some to learn. Soon, there was another wheel and then another and some drop spindles and we continue to grow.

I just purchased a drop spindle and am looking to learn how to use it. Also are there any local stores that sell roving and spinning wheels.
Thanks,
Cindy Luedeman
Hi Cindy,
I responded to you privately by email…
I’ve been spinning since last summer but I didn’t know there was a group around here! I’d love more information.
Hi everyone,
I used to live in Big Flats many years ago and went to the Sing Sing school. Anyone remember that one? I lived right down the road from it. I plan on a trip up there in May and would love to visit but don’t know the address Could anyone furnish it for me please.
thank you

I am just getting into the fiber field. Recently purchased a couple of angora rabbits (sheared them for the first time) and getting ready for suri alpacas. I am definately a newbie into this field of fiber and I do not know how to spin, weave, etc. Is this guild open to your neighboring county? I work in Chemung County but actually live in Steuben County. I searched online for something nearby and I came across your website. I believe you offer what I am interested in learning. Look forward to hearing back from you. -Carolyn
I visited the guild in May, but was out of town for the June and July meetings. I’m interested in joining the guild; what do I need to do? I’m also interested in finding a used spinning wheel; are there any for sale within the guild or could you point me to a place to look for them? Thank you!
Just read about local guild meeting and wonder if there is knitting instruction available.
Wonderful to know you are here and near! I want to know more!
I have a couple of looms aching to be warped and would love
to know how to use the Turkish drop spindle I was gifted and where to get yarn locally. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Ladies of the Chemung Valley Spinners Guid!!!! I have wanted to learn how to spin for a while and thanks to the patience of many of the members, not only did I learn to use a drop spindle, but have had the opportunity to use various spinning wheels as well as borrow one from the guild. I have now puchased my first whell and have been spinning every chance I get. This would not have happen if it were not for all of the sharing and lessons that took place at the guild!

I would like more infomation regarding the fiber arts guild. I love to knit and crochet and I am interested into exploring other crafts. I would like to know more about spinning and dyeing.
