Notes from last meeting on August 6, 2011
- Review of July Activities
- Open House at Painted Post Alpacas
- Meg Lowman Treetops Camp at Tanglewood: eight Guild members participated, “thank-you” note from the staff.
- Dyeing day was canceled
- Chemung Count Fair: eight Guild members participated on opening day
- Troy Fair: at least four members demonstrated. For next year, anyone who has a Mary Stepney fleece may submit whatever they make from it; if it gets a blue ribbon they win another Stepney fleece.
- Upcoming Events:
- Strong Kids, Safe Kids – August 20, 10AM-3PM at Chemung Fairgrounds. They are going to have a “Culture and Arts” tent to show kids what kinds of interesting and different things they can learn to do.
- Whingblinger: September 10, 10AM-4PM. This year we will be located by the log cabin (not by the gasoline engines), along with the flax processing.
- Sheep & Wool Festival at Hemlock: September 17 (10AM-5P) and 18 (10AM-4PM).
- To enter items, go to http://www.gvhg.org/fest/s&g.html to download the rules and entry forms.
- For workshops, go to http://www.gvhg.org/fest/workshops.html and click on "Class descriptions, times and costs," and on "Registration Form for 2011" to register.
- Mumford: Genesee Country Village and Museum, http://www.gcv.org/. The museum holds special events on many weekends, and it was felt that a weekday might be less crowded. Still working on a date.
- Farm-City Day, October 8 at Chemung Fairgrounds. Further discussion at the September meeting.
- Basket Workshop, to make a "potato basket." Suggested dates were October 22 and 29, with registration and payment due October 1. More information at the September meeting.
- Meetings
- September 3: 1-4pm at the church. .
- October 1: 1-PM at the church.
- November 5: Anniversary and Sale. More information at September & October meetings.
- Other:
- It was suggested that we have a table available at each meeting for "free" items – fibers, skeins, etc., that you no longer need or want. Please note: if you bring items for this table, and they have not been taken by the time you leave, please take them back with you.
- Don’t forget to bring non-perishable food items for the local food pantry, and/or cash for the Community Kitchen.
